I had the opportunity to spend a day cliping fins on several thousand Chinook Salmon fry at a fish hatchery north of Toronto. Ringwood hatchery was originally operated by the Ontario Government but is now all volunteer labour. The management falls to the Metro East Anglers and volunteers from several clubs join in for the grunt work. The hatchery cultures over 500,000 Chinook as well as Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Atlantic Salmon all destined to be released into various locations on Lake Ontario.

How it starts. Electrofishing in fall Collected Chinook eggs
Removing adipose fin one snip at a time
Some volunteers 70,000 Chinook fry 1 of 10 tanks
Nice to give back and ensure the fish are there for future generations and I really enjoyed the BBQ at days end.
Ps. It takes a million man hours per year to run the station.
